Massmouth is a Boston-based non-profit organization that promotes the timeless art of storytelling. Since our founding in 2009, Massmouth has changed the way Greater Boston and the surrounding communities tell and listen to stories. Massmouth organizes storytelling events throughout Greater Boston and surrounding communities, including competitive slams, monthly special features, and custom events. The organization also provides coaching and storytelling workshops for businesses, non-profit organizations, and individuals.

In Massmouth, we say that "one good story calls another." Learn how to continue to improve your storytelling during this interactive three-week course taught by Massmouth's expert instructors. Dig deeper into scene and character development and story editing. Explore how to captivate an audience from the first line to the last word. During the final week, perform an improved story on stage at Club Passim in Harvard Square.

Class sizes are intentionally small to allow for community building and meaningful feedback.

Who will win this year's title of Greater Boston's best storyteller? Join Massmouth for the 2018-2019 storytelling slam season finale, The Big Mouth Off, to find out! After advancing through quarter and semi-final competitions at Trident Booksellers and Club Passim, ten outstanding local tellers deliver true, first-person stories that are funny, heartbreaking, and everything in between. The winner, selected by a panel of notable guest judges, will be named this year's Big Mouth Off champion. 

All proceeds benefit Massmouth, a Boston-based nonprofit organization that encourages and promotes the timeless art of storytelling. Funds support annual programming, including story slams, showcases, workshops, and special events.

A story slam is a contest of stories by known and undiscovered talent. Story slammers sign up on that night to tell a 5-minute true story on the evening's theme. Ten names are drawn at random from a box. A team of five volunteer judges evaluates how well each story is told, how well it is constructed, how well the story explores, connects and/or reveals some truth about the theme, and how well it honors the time limit. The top-scorer is awarded a prize and this winner, the runner-up and the audience-selected favorite earn an opportunity to compete to perform at the "Big Mouth Off" at the end of the slam season in the spring!

About Last Night Story Slam

Our second Passim story slam of the 2018-2019 season is on the theme “About Last Night." Bring your best true stories of what went down the night before - memorable dates, unplanned parties, embarrassing moments - however you interpret the theme - to Club Passim in Harvard Square for an evening of engaging entertainment and dinner and drinks if you choose. 

Doors open at 6pm. Slam starts at 7pm. Tickets are $12 online or at the door.
